It was great to join Committee4Wagga at their Welcome to Wagga event, welcoming new arrivals from different countries.

They’ll bring much-needed skills to fill positions that we need to provide health and aged care, trades and other roles that might otherwise remain vacant.

In a statement to parliament this week, I noted that while we do need to have a constructive national debate about the future of immigration in Australia, the fact remains that the skills of migrants are essential for the provision of services to our community for our future.

Our health system, for example, could barely function without the doctors, nurses, allied health providers and others from the migrant community who play a critical role in keeping us healthy and safe.
