Gobba bridge – second river crossing
I continue to advocate strongly for a second river crossing that complements the Gobba Bridge.
It is important the community continues to share their hopes and concerns so we can maintain pressure to deliver this crucial improvement to Wagga Wagga.
The northern suburbs are growing and a second river crossing is essential if that growth is to be maintained.
I have raised the issue with the government on multiple occasions and am I’m working on a concerted advocacy campaign to begin the planning now so that we have the infrastructure needed for the future.
The Transport for NSW’s Northern Access community engagement report will be an important tool in efforts to deliver the roads and bridges the area needs and I thank all those who took the time to share their feedback.
I have partnered with the Wagga Business Chamber and Committee 4 Wagga to launch a new petition calling on the Government to duplicate the Gobba Bridge.
If we can get 10,000 signatures, our need for a new bridge will be debated in parliament – so please sign and ask your friends and family to do the same.
Copies of the petition can be collected from my office at 64 Baylis St or accessed at https://joemcgirr.com.au/s/Paper-Petition-proposal-Gobba-Bridge-petition-final-LV.pdf
Full name, signature and residential address are required by the NSW Parliament for the petition to be valid. Duplicated signatures will be declared invalid.
The petition must be completed in hard copy. Please return completed forms to my office at 64 Baylis Street, Wagga Wagga NSW 2650.
Other transport projects
The redevelopment of the Marshalls Creek Bridge is one example of how our community worked together to improve our roads infrastructure and with work now under way, we can turn our attention to the next priorities for our city.
More generally, our roads need to be properly planned, maintained and repaired to keep up with population growth and allow our residents and businesses to safely travel with ease throughout the electorate.
I look forward to working with the government and local councils to deliver the road networks we need.
In the Snowy Valleys, I continue to hear from residents concerned over the pressures that increased heavy vehicle traffic, linked to the construction of Humelink, are placing on the road network.
I will work to ensure the government is made aware of these challenges so we can enjoy safer, more efficient road journeys right across the electorate.
Following my advocacy, work has been completed on the new roundabout at the Snowy Mountains Highway and Gocup Road intersection in Tumut.
Installation of the new roundabout followed calls from the community for a safer intersection at this junction of the key local transport link.
Roundabouts reduce the risk of road users being seriously injured by minimising the impact angles and lower severity crashes in the event of an accident.
