Net zero emissions webinar

December 2021

In late October 2021 I hosted a fantastic webinar, attended by more than 60 people, to raise awareness of the issue of net zero emissions.

Everyone wants to do their bit to protect the environment now and into the future.

The webinar focused on what actions could be be taken and supported by the community in conjunction with local and state government to achieve net zero emissions.

We considered what actions could be taken, or supported, by the community in conjunction with local councils and the state government to achieve net zero emissions.

There was a great range of presenters including Kartik Madhira, Net Zero Programs Coordination at Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, Carly Hood, Environmental Coordinator, Wagga Wagga City Council, and Alex Kelly, Policy Manager, Electric Vehicle Council.

The presenters shared their expertise on some of the ways the community can help to move towards net zero emissions, including waste recycling, electricity use, building design, creating cities of the future and greening our environment.

The NSW government has this year announced some major initiatives to help reduce emissions.

From the development of renewable energy zones to a statewide hydrogen strategy, there is actually a lot of innovation around NSW. It is good to see the government taking action.

In November, I asked the Minister for Energy and the Environment what he would be doing to ensure and assist local councils work with their communities to achieve net zero emissions, not just for the council but for the community as a whole.

You can read his reply here.
