Health and Knowledge Precinct

November 2022

Work is nearing completion on the multi-storey car park at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital. After so many years of construction, it is exciting to see work on this enormous redevelopment coming to an end. The car park will be a huge asset for the hospital precinct, where parking has been an ongoing issue for many years.

Development approval granted for multi-million dollar Biomedical Sciences Centre, to be built here in Wagga Wagga.

It is wonderful to see progress being made on this facility.

I have been involved with the development of the rural medical school for 25 years in various capacities, andI’m currently involved as a member of the UNSW Rural Medical School Oversight Council.

Thank you to the community members who have worked so hard for many years to make this a reality.

December 2021

I was thrilled by the recent announcement of $1 million for planning for the Wagga Wagga Health and Knowledge Precinct.

The precinct has the potential to improve services in the region, train the health workforce we need locally and, through research, come up with solutions to health challenges.

It has the potential to be a real first for regional NSW and a breakthrough for rural health.

I have been involved with this project for number of years. It has been a focus of mine, and something I have lobbied for, since I was elected to Parliament.

This is a great step forward and has come after a lot of work. I want to particularly acknowledge chair of the precinct committee, Neil Mangelsdorf, along with Michael Keys and Wagga Wagga City Council, Jill Ludford and the Murrumbidgee Local Health District, Zoe Terpening from the University of NSW and all the members of the committee.

The Health and Knowledge Precinct is something that I discussed with Premier Dominic Perrottet, Deputy Premier Paul Toole and Minister for Health, Brad Hazzard, last month. I also spoke about it in Parliament. You can read my speech here.

I believe that all three were impressed with the work done so far and the genuine collaboration shown by the members of the health and education sectors as well as the opportunities this initiative could open up.
