Tom Looney awarded Community Service Award
It was an absolute pleasure to present Tom Looney with a NSW Government Community Service Award.
Tom has made - and continues to make - significant contributions to local charities and sporting groups in the Wagga Wagga community for more than five decades.
Tom spent a number of years on the committee of the Edel Quinn Shelter for homeless men, has worked with Country Hope, where he remains a volunteer, organising fundraising events for families, and is currently treasurer of the Wagga Support Group; a group of mates who raise funds for people struggling financially following poor health.
Turning to the sporting field, Tom was the founding treasurer of the Riverina Men Of League, raising funds for members of the rugby league community suffering from poor health, and is a life member of the Wagga Kangaroos Rugby League Club, serving on the
committee for 22 years, including 16 years as either President, Secretary or Treasurer.
Part of the small committee that introduced Touch Football to Wagga Wagga, Tom was secretary for 11 years, before becoming the inaugural life member.
He served as Treasurer of the Wagga Rugby League for a number of years, and was a part of the group that established the rugby league facility at the Equex Centre.
An impressive life of community service and contribution, and an incredibly deserving recipient of a NSW Community Service Award.
Well done Tom.
