$330,000 to support community projects across Wagga Wagga

Wagga’s crusaders against domestic violence are set to benefit from a cash injection to help battle energy bills.

Member for Wagga Wagga Dr Joe McGirr on Thursday announced Wagga Women’s Health Centre was one of 17 community, sporting and cultural organisations to receive a share in $330,000 funding across the electorate.

These Community Building Partnership grants provide the means to improve or build facilities that can benefit the city and surrounding townships.

“Local organisations are able to purchase much-needed resources, equipment or services that can help support their members and the communities they serve,” Dr McGirr said.

“These small projects deliver positive social, environmental and recreational outcomes.

“Wagga Women’s Health Centre can now install a new server for upgraded system security and solar panels for reduced energy consumption, with this $14,455 grant.

“Being able to spend less on power bills, means more money can go into supporting the city’s most vulnerable.”

Talbingo Country Club and Tarcutta Campdraft Club Inc were also among the list of groups that made successful applications this year, both receiving more than $30,000 in funding for their community projects.

While the country club is set to install a disabled access ramp and toilet, including automatic doors with its $38,325 grant, the campdraft club will spend the $30,640 it received, adding footpaths, landscaping and a retainer wall to its existing building.

Dr McGirr urged any group wanting to know about next year’s round of grants to contact his new office at 64 Baylis Street on 02 6921 1622.
