NSW INTERPRETER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - WAGGA WAGGA

Do you live in Wagga Wagga and speak one or more of these languages? Burmese, Chinese-Chiu Chow, Creole, Dinka, Fijian, Fiji Hindi, Igbo, Khmer, Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, Krio, Kurmanji Kurdish, Mongolian, Nepali, Oromo, Samoan, S’Gaw Karen, Somali, Swahili, Telugu, Tetum, Tigrinya, Tongan, Twi, Urdu and Uyghur.

Multicultural NSW, in conjunction with TAFE NSW, is offering scholarships to residents of Wagga Wagga to undertake a non-accredited interpreting course to gain a TAFE NSW Statement in Preparation for Interpreting for people from new and emerging communities, or languages where there is a critical need.
Course graduates will be eligible to become Recognised Practicing Interpreters with the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI), and will gain employment on the Multicultural NSW Interpreter Panel.

Participants will be required to attend five hours per week of classes (face-to-face and online learning) for 10 weeks, starting in mid-September 2020. The classes will run two nights per week (Mondays and Wednesdays – each session is 2.5 hours) at TAFE NSW Wagga Wagga Campus.

Applicants from the Wagga Wagga region who have previously applied for the 2020 NSW Interpreter Scholarship and who have made it to the language proficiency testing stage will be contacted and have their applications carried over for this course, if they so wish.

 

Eligibility:
The program is offered to people who meet the eligibility criteria. To be eligible for a scholarship you must:

  • Live in Wagga Wagga, NSW

  • Be an Australian citizen, or have permanent residency (consideration will be given to applications from asylum seekers)

  • Successfully fulfill English language proficiency requirements as required by TAFE NSW. TAFE NSW will be conducting English level testing to assess the eligibility of participants in the course

  • Have sufficient oral language proficiency in the preferred language as determined by Multicultural NSW assessors

  • Have some computer skills to participate in the blended learning format.
