NEW ADELONG POLICE STATION OFFICIALLY OPENED

The Minister for Police and Emergency Services has officially opened the new Adelong Police Station today following a visit to the border police operations in Albury yesterday.

Mr Elliott Joined Member for Wagga Wagga Dr Joe McGirr and Acting Assistant Commissioner Dean Smith to open the modular construction which has been funded through the $15.9 million Regional Small Police Station Program.

Mr Elliott said the modern facility will support police and the local community.

“The NSW Government continues to deliver on its election commitment to invest in a police station infrastructure program to support the vital work of our police men and women.”

“The facility provides the resources and modern amenities for police to operate effectively in Adelong and its surrounds,” Mr Elliott said.

Member for Wagga Wagga Dr Joe McGirr said it is important the local community knows their police officers have the best resources available.

“The facility also provides extra space to allow specialist and visiting police the resources they need to further support this community,” he said.

Since July 2019, the Government has announced 7 extra police positions for the Riverina Police District as part of its commitment to investing more than $583 million to deliver 1500 extra police over four years.

Southern Region Commander, Assistant Commissioner Dean Smith, said the new station is an investment into regional policing.

“This new facility gives Riverina police the support they need to respond effectively to emerging crime issues and other emergency situations,” he said.

Superintendent Bob Noble, Commander of Riverina Police District said the new facility will meet the current and future operational needs in the area.

“The offsite fabrication of the station meant that we saw minimal disruption to local police operations during the building phase. The new facility is equipped with a public front counter, duty rooms, an interview room as well as a secure detainee area,” he said.

“The facility will service the needs of the community, while ensuring our officers are provided a modern and safe workplace to support them as they help keep the community safe.”
