BOMEN BUS TRIAL EXTENDED TO END OF YEAR

Four trial weekday bus services and two Saturday services designed to connect workers in Wagga Wagga to the Bomen Business Park will be extended to the end of the year.

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the services were part of the NSW Government’s vision to help make public transport a first-choice option for people living in the regions.

“These services have made public transport a genuine option for a whole new group of people to get to and from work,” Mr Toole said.

“These trial services are perfect for workers heading to Bomen Business Park, especially for those who work on Saturdays and early morning shifts which finish in the afternoon. We are committed to building a safer, stronger regional NSW and having a strong public transport offering in centres like Wagga plays a huge part in that.”

Member for Wagga Wagga Dr Joe McGirr said the services take customers from Turvey Park and suburbs in Wagga Wagga to the Bomen Business Park during morning and evening peaks, and on Saturdays.

“These services were part of a major revamp of the local bus network delivered by the NSW Government in partnership with Busabout Wagga,” Dr McGirr said

”Most pleasingly, the number of customers using these services has grown as the trial progressed, despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Member of the Legislative Council Wes Fang said extending the trial until the end of the year would allow Transport for NSW to get a better understanding of how customers use the service outside the peak of a pandemic so they can assess its long-term viability.

“We’ve received great feedback from workers who use the service and would love to see more people take the opportunity to try it out over the course of this year,” Mr Fang said.

“These services are making a huge difference to the everyday lives of locals, so I’m glad we’ve been able to extend the trial to make life easier for even more people.”

Customers can now travel in the morning from Turvey Tops at 4.07am or 5.52am, and from Bomen Business Park in the evenings on the 3.25pm and 4.30pm services.
