BRUNGLE CREEK BRIDGE TO BE UPGRADED

The NSW Government has announced Snowy Valleys Council will receive $740,000 in funding to upgrade the Brungle Creek Bridge through Round 2A of the $500 million Fixing Country Bridges program. 

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway said the funding would assist council in replacing the current timber bridge with concrete infrastructure better suited to withstand extreme weather events and protect our supply chain. 

“Upgrading from a timber bridge to a stronger and more durable concrete structure will help to keep the community connected for generations to come,” Mr Farraway said.  

“This Government is getting on with the job of delivering safer and stronger connections across regional NSW with $49.25 million awarded to replace 34 timber bridges with concrete bridges across 21 Local Government Areas (LGA).

“That’s why we’re pushing ahead with Round 2A of the Fixing Country Bridges program in LGAs where councils are ready to get to work, so these projects can get started. 

“With each bridge replaced, we’re opening up more efficient routes for heavy vehicles from primary producers and freight to the local school bus and RFS tankers, this bridge will mean a more reliable journey for everyone.” 

Upper House MP Wes Fang said it is fantastic that the NSW Government is investing in stronger and longer lasting infrastructure in the Riverina.  

“The NSW Government is providing locals with safer, stronger and more efficient connections through investments into the regional road network across the Wagga electorate.”

“With this funding from the NSW Government, council will be able to deliver infrastructure that will serve the Brungle Creek community for decades to come.”  

Member for Wagga Wagga Dr Joe McGirr said the new bridge would serve the community well into the future.

“This funding is going to make a big difference for the local community by ensuring better access,” Dr McGirr said.

“Upgrading this bridge will help future proof this area in the event of natural disasters.” 

The Riverina received a further boost through Round 2A of Fixing Country Bridges with Cootamundra Gundagai Regional Council receiving over $1.5 million in funding to replace the The Hillas Creek Bridge at Mundarlo. 

A total of $290 million has already been awarded to councils under Round 1 of Fixing Country Bridges to replace more than 400 timber structures across 54 LGAs across the state.

Councils will have 30 days to accept the funding on offer and will deliver their projects within 30 months of signing the funding agreement.

The outcome of all other eligible applications submitted in Round 2 of the Fixing Country Bridges Program is expected to be announced towards the end of 2022.
