WORK IS UNDERWAY ON THE TUMUT INTERSECTION UPGRADE

Work is continuing on a new roundabout at the Snowy Mountains Highway and Gocup Road intersection in Tumut to replace a high traffic, four-way intersection, improving safety and traffic flow.

Installing the new roundabout follows calls from the community for a safer intersection at this junction of the key local transport link.

Roundabouts reduce the risk of road users being seriously injured by minimising the impact angles and lower severity crashes in the event of an accident.

Stage 1 initial works are now complete. This included setting up the work site on Gocup Road and removing selected vegetation and trees to improve visibility.

Major earthworks to widen the intersection and flatten the slope along Gocup Road and the Snowy Mountains Highway will start on 1 August, weather permitting.

Initial work started in late March this year, with some delays experienced due to weather. The project is expected to be completed by mid-2023.

Single lane closures, traffic control and reduced speed limits will be in place and may affect travel times. Both governments thank motorists for their patience during this time.

Joint funding of $19.5 million is being invested in the project, with the Australian Government contributing $15.6 million from the Road Safety Program, and the NSW Government contributing $3.9 million.
