DR JOE CALLS FOR SUPPORT TO KEEP REX FLYING

The Independent Member for Wagga Wagga, Dr Joe McGirr, has urged the state and federal governments to do all they can to ensure Rex continues to operate a full schedule of flights to and from regional centres in NSW.

While acknowledging the airline has a responsibility to solve its serious financial and governance issues, Dr McGirr said it was critical that governments provide any support needed to keep regional air services at full capacity.

“It is essential to business, government services and recreational travel that our regional cities continue to be fully serviced by a number of airlines so that we have competitive and reliable air travel options now and into the future,” Dr McGirr said.

“These services are critical to our economy and lifestyle and all steps must be taken to deliver confidence that Rex can continue to fly to Wagga Wagga and its other regional destinations.

“I have written to the Premier, asking him to investigate ways in which the government can work with Rex to help it through this crisis and guarantee the continuance of full services.

“I also welcome Federal Transport Minister Catherine King’s acknowledgement of the importance of regional aviation and connectivity and urge the Albanese Government to take whatever steps are necessary to ensure Rex services continue.”
