DR JOE WELCOMES BRIDGE CONTRACT

The awarding of the construction contract for a major upgrade to the Sturt Highway at Marshalls Creek has been welcomed as an important step forward in delivering Wagga’s road transport needs for future generations.

The Independent Member for Wagga Wagga, Dr McGirr, said the $30m million project will improve safety and ease congestion on the highway, providing increased capacity, as well as safer and shorter journeys for the more than 20,000 vehicles that use this section of the Sturt Highway daily.

The existing Marshall’s Creek bridge will be replaced with a longer, wider structure, expanding from two lanes to four and delivering improved traffic flow and connectivity on this critical transport corridor.

The construction contract has been awarded to Huon Contractors Pty Ltd, with major works scheduled to begin in August, weather permitting.

Early works will continue in the coming weeks, including relocating electrical overhead power poles and installing new street lighting.

Transport for NSW is working closely with the contractor to ensure safe pedestrian access is maintained throughout construction, including access to the popular Wiradjuri Walking Track.

Further information will be provided to the community before major construction begins. Residents can stay informed by subscribing to updates here.

Motorists are advised to drive to conditions and follow all signage and directions from traffic controllers.

Transport for NSW thanks the community for their patience during these important works. For the latest traffic updates download the Live Traffic NSW App, visit livetraffic.com or call 132 701.

Independent Member for Wagga Wagga Dr Joe McGirr said:

"To see these much-needed improvements progress to the construction stage is exciting news for the local community and anyone who travels to the area.

"In addition to providing increased capacity on the bridge, the project will deliver a three-metre-wide shared path on the southern side and a 1.8-metre-wide footpath on the northern side to greatly improve access for pedestrians and cyclists.

"This investment by the Government demonstrates a commitment to making Wagga Wagga an even better place to live, work and visit."
