Yesterday I attended the relaunch of the No More Silence Against Domestic Violence Campaign, by the Wagga Wagga Domestic Violence Liaison Committee.
The BBQ event was held by the Wagga Women’s Health Centre as part of the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence.
I spoke about the recent changes that were passed in NSW Parliament, including the affirmative consent law, which puts an onus on the defendant in a sexual assault case to prove they sought consent.
I also spoke about the necessity for education in the community surrounding gender-based violence, and the need for a broader awareness of these issues.
Events such as this, bringing together all of the allies who are helping to end gender-based violence, are vital to ensuring these messages continue to be shared and heard throughout the community.
