Work on stage two of the Riverina Intermodal Freight and Logistics Hub (RiFL) at Bomen is complete, with a ceremony earlier today officially marking the occasion.
Construction of a new 4.9-kilometre section of rail track that will connect the main southern railway line to the future hub is now finished.
The rail connection will service the future hub, allowing the safe transfer of freight containers between the road and rail development and adjoining industrial land.
Rail freight is the most cost-effective way to transport large quantities over long distances, with one 1200-metre-long train carrying the equivalent load of more than 134 trucks.
The hub, which is expected to be completed in late 2022, along with Inland Rail and the Bomen Special Activation Precinct, will help to provide faster access and connectivity to national and international markets for regional businesses and products.
It is a great example of what can be achieved when all levels of government work together. 👍
