What a fantastic morning at the offical opening of the new Wagga Wagga PCYC facility, the largest PCYC build to date.
At 10,000 square metres, the new $23 million facility is the largest in the state.
It includes a 3200-square-metre air conditioned and heated multipurpose sports hall, a gym, studios for martial arts, boxing, dance and yoga, a public cafe, conference and meeting facilities.
It also features an out-of-school-hours centre, a youth drop-in hub and more than 100 undercover parking spots.
It was an honour to speak at the opening of the new PCYC facility in Wagga this morning.
In leaving the old centre and moving to the new facility, the Wagga PCYC leaves behind a rich history, and I relished in sharing this one story in particular during my speech:
At a 1997 Bee Gees concert at the MGM Grand Hotel concert in Las Vegas, Barry Gibbs told the audience that the group’s song, Morning of My Life, was actually written in what was then known as Wagga Wagga’s Police Boys Club!
The theme of the morning, heard throughout all of the speeches and messages of congratulations really was the importance of the PCYC in helping to guide our youth, who are our future.
