I was pleased to be able to visit Wagga Wagga Base Hospital and meet Associate Professor Singh-Grewal at the paediatric rheumatology outreach clinic, which is now up and running at the hospital.
It was great to catch up with young Benizar Ali and her parents, Shaleen and Nazeem, who had been campaigning for the establishment of the clinic. I was happy to be able to add my voice to the call for this much-needed service in Wagga.
Before the clinic was established, children like Benizar, who live in rural, remote and regional NSW, usually had to travel long distances to major city hospitals to access the care of paediatric rheumatologists like Associate Professor Singh-Grewal.
Pictured with me are paediatrician Leah Finney, Shaleen Ali, Benazir Ali, Nazeem Ali, and Associate Professor Singh-Grewal, a paediatric rheumatologist.
