It was an honour to meet Hayley Foster, the chief executive officer of Full Stop Australia, at the Voices of Survivors event at parliament house in Sydney this week.
It was humbling to hear the powerful stories of survivors of sexual violence during the Voices of Survivors roundtable discussion.
As a community, we need still have a lot of work to do on eliminating sexual violence.
Recent data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show that NSW recorded the highest number of victims of sexual assault since data collection began 29 years ago. The ABS says that in NSW in 2021, there were 11,546 victims of sexual assault.
We need a robust strategy in NSW to continue the work to eliminate sexual violence.
My thanks to my parliamentary colleagues, Jodie Harrison and Jenny Leong, for hosting the event.
