It was a great pleasure to attend an event celebrating the 25th anniversary of the declaration of Lockhart as a Rotary Peace Town on Friday.

While peace can seem as far away as ever given the horrible events taking place elsewhere in the world, it’s important that we stand together in support of the ideal of a world free of conflict.

It struck me while in a very peaceful town in one of the world’s most peaceful countries, that peace starts with goodwill and tolerance from everyone.

Peace can take shape at home, in our workplaces and in the ways in which we interact as well as on the national and global stage so it was important to acknowledge Lockhart’s commitment to making a difference.

Congratulations to that community for the milestone of upholding peace and harmony as ideals for all of us.
