LOWER PUBLIC TRANSPORT FARES FOR MORE VETERANS
Great to hear today that an expansion in eligibility for concession travel will mean veterans with a disability, widows and dependent children who have lost a parent among will all now be able to save on public transport.
Changes will allow eligible veterans, widows, widowers and dependents of deceased service men and women:
A Gold Opal card to travel on the Opal network for no more than $2.50 per day.
Rural and regional concession fares including the $2.50 Regional Excursion Daily (RED) bus tickets and the $2.50 Country Pensioner Excursion tickets for NSW TrainLink Regional.
All NSW residents with a Veteran Gold Card can apply for a Gold Opal card to travel on concession fares from 30 June.
The new look Veteran Gold Card is being issued by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs to eligible recipients in a phased rollout during 2020. All other benefits and entitlements will remain unchanged. The card will replace all existing DVA gold health cards and is being sent to card holders before their health card expires.
Eligible veterans, widow/ers and dependent children will need to carry their DVA Veteran Gold Card or DVA Gold Health Card as proof of entitlement to concession travel.
