APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL

Young community leaders and advocates are being encouraged to nominate for the 2021 NSW Youth Advisory Council with applications opening today.

Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services Gareth Ward said the 12-member Council has an important role in providing advice to the NSW Government on the issues affecting young people.

“Having been a member of my local council Youth Advisory Committee, I deeply value the voices of young people and I know and understand how important it is to listen to the leaders of tomorrow,” Mr Ward said.

“The Youth Advisory Council gives young people from across the state a platform to advocate on behalf of their peers about issues close to their heart.”

 Throughout their 12 month tenure, members of the Council will have an opportunity to engage with NSW Government agencies and provide advice on the development and implementation of policy.

Minister for Mental Health, Regional Youth and Women Bronnie Taylor said one of the priorities of the Youth Advisory Council was promoting a diverse range of views, including the voices of rural and regional young people.

“We need passionate young people to have a say in their future and help us shape policies and programs that will build strong and more vibrant regional communities,” Mrs Taylor said.

NSW Advocate for Children and Young People Zoë Robinson encouraged all young people to consider applying and being part of shaping NSW’s future.

“We live in a diverse state and each and every young person can bring value to the Youth Advisory Council,” Ms Robinson said.

 “I encourage everyone aged between 12 and 24 to visit the Advocate for Children and Young People website to find out more about how to apply.”
