HELP SHAPE PLANS FOR INTERSECTION UPGRADES
Community feedback will help shape plans for the Olympic Highway intersection upgrades, with the revised design and environmental assessment now out for comment.
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said today’s release of the concept design and Review of Environmental Factors (REF) report addressed the community’s safety and traffic flow concerns for the Olympic Highway intersections at Old Narrandera Road and Travers Street in Wagga Wagga.
“We know this is an important project to locals and we’ve listened to them to help deliver safer, more efficient intersections at either end of the Gobbagombalin Bridge,” Mr Toole said.
“This involved re-investigating whether upgrading the intersections to traffic lights was the best option, and we’ve confirmed that it delivers the best combination of road user safety, traffic efficiency and performance.”
Member for Wagga Wagga Dr Joe McGirr said some of the key features on the updated Old Narrandera Road intersection design include additional lanes between the intersection and the Boorooma Street ramps, and two turning lanes from Old Narrandera Road onto the highway.
“The Travers Street intersection will be moved south for better access and traffic efficiency,” Dr McGirr said.
“Relocating the intersection would integrate with any possible duplication of Gobbagombalin Bridge in the future, an important consideration for planning for the years ahead on the network.
“I asked Transport for NSW to look at a grade separated solution and I have been assured that this has been investigated thoroughly.”
In a first for the region, the community can read the REF, review the concept designs and submit their comments via a digital engagement room at nswroads.work/ohiu.
Submissions can be made until 5pm Friday, 22 October via the website, by emailing SouthProjects@transport.nsw.gov.au, calling (02) 6923 6571 or mailing Olympic Highway intersection upgrades PO Box 484, Wagga Wagga NSW 2650.
Once submissions have been received, they will be reviewed before a submissions report is released in response to the feedback. For more information, visit nswroads.work/ohiu.
