INTERSECTION UPGRADES FOR HEALTH PRECINCT
I welcome the announcement of redevelopment and safety works at the busy Murray and Docker Street intersections with Edward Street.
The $3.4 million safety works will improve the flow of traffic in the area, and improve access to the health precinct.
I ask that during this time, people are patient with the disruptions at the intersections.
I acknowledge concerns that there will be a loss of parking around the precinct. It is anticipated that this loss of parking will be offset by the new multi-storey car park being built.
Some important notes on the upgrades:
Work will start on Monday 6 February, on the Murray Street intersection traffic lights. Work will progress in stages to Docker Street to help minimise traffic and parking impacts.
At least one lane of traffic will be open in each direction at all times, and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will apply for the safety of workers and motorists.
Work will be carried out from 7am to 6pm on weekdays, and 7.30am to 5pm on Saturdays. When required, work will be carried out from 6pm to 4am and on Sundays from 8am to 5pm.
There will be no access to Edward Street from Murray Street for the duration of the project. Traffic control will be in place, along with detours and signage, to direct road users and pedestrians.
