I was delighted to have received a visit from the Minister for Indigenous Australians the Hon Linda Burney MP.
Minister Burney met with myself and local First Nations Elders and representatives including Aunty Isabel Reid, Aunty Kath Withers, Aunty Gail Mandelson, Ms Therese Reid and Ms Anna Gannon.
The Minister discussed local concerns of the Wiradjuri Elders in regards to the Voice referendum.
The Minister explained that the Voice was a historic opportunity to recognise First Nations in the constitution and would be representative of communities from metropolitan, regional and remote communities.
We later addressed a well-attended community barbeque in the Wollundry Lagoon / Council Theatre Precinct emceed by Vickie Birkinshaw; the welcome to country was delivered by Aunty Isabel Reid. Speakers included myself, Minister Burney and Mark Jefferson. The Minister commented on the warm support to the Voice referendum given at the barbeque.
