An exciting milestone was reached in Wagga’s transport future today when the Minister for Regional Transport, Jenny Aitchison, came to town to turn the first sod on the Marshalls Creek Bridge redevelopment.
This project will transform travel along the Sturt Highway, creating four lanes of traffic over the bridge, removing a historic bottleneck and importantly, significantly improving safety for thousands of drivers, cyclists and pedestrians crossing the bridge every day.
Except for some night closures, the bridge will remain open during the works but as always, please take care around roadworks.
Thank you to the minister for her strong support of this project. It’s something we lobbied hard for and it’s great to see the government deliver on this transformative project.
Thank you also to Aunty Dot Whyman for her inspirational Welcome to Country and Luke Wighton for the traditional smoking ceremony – great ways to launch a wonderful improvement to our city’s transport network.
Our next major priority will be to secure a start to start planning for the Gobba Bridge duplication and I look forward to continuing to present this important case to the government.
